By Alyssa Laffitte on April 10, 2020

As college students, we often don’t have time to grocery shop or to cook up exciting new recipes. For that reason, we opt for delivery way more than we should! After all, it’s quick, convenient, and delicious. However, ordering food for delivery could be a challenge when you have dietary restrictions, like a vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or dairy-free diet. In this article, we’ll discuss delicious, dairy-free food delivery options.

Meal Delivery Kits

One way to get your dairy-free meals delivered is through purchasing a meal-delivery kit. When you order a meal-delivery kit, the company will send you all the ingredients you need to make a delicious meal. It’s the best way to start getting comfortable in the kitchen and making yummy meals. Depending on how much food you order, one delivery can have enough ingredients for multiple servings. If you enjoy cooking but hate grocery shopping, a meal kit is definitely the way to go. Meal kits are clearly very convenient for busy college students, and thankfully, many of them offer dairy-free options. So let’s discuss some good options for dairy-free meal kit delivery options.

Freshly

Freshly is unique from the rest of the meal delivery kits we’ll discuss because it involves the least amount of cooking. When you order meals from Freshly, all you need to do is “heat and eat”! Additionally, their food is always gluten- and peanut-free. When you order, you have the option to “uncheck” ingredients you don’t want. This makes it easy to ensure your food is dairy-free. Freshly is a great option for dairy-free food delivery.

Home Chef

Home Chef is a meal kit delivery service that’s friendly to many different types of dietary restrictions, including a dairy-free diet. They have an entire section on their website dedicated to dairy-free options. (However, most of the dairy-free choices include meat, so please be aware of that).

Purple Carrot

Purple Carrot is another great meal kit delivery service. Purple Carrot stands out because it is a completely plant-based meal kit. If you’re seeking a plant-based, dairy-free diet, this is the best option for you!

Hello Fresh

Although Hello Fresh does not have a specific dairy-free section, they have a wide variety of dairy-free options. Additionally, you could also simply not use any dairy products, like cheese or sour cream, that they provide.

Sun Basket

Finally, Sun Basket is a meal kit delivery service known for using high-quality ingredients, especially their organic produce. Of course, they have a dedicated section for dairy-free meals, so it will be a great option for you.

If you’re a busy college student, but you still want to get some cooking experience, a dairy-free meal delivery kit is the best way to do it while still keeping your diet.

From Your Favorite Restaurants

Another way to get delicious, dairy-free meals is to get it delivered from your favorite restaurants. Call your local restaurants and see if you can place an order for delivery, or use a delivery app like PostMates or Door Dash. Even if they don’t advertise dairy-free options, many restaurants do have them, especially if you ask for some modifications (for example, if you ask them to leave out any cheese). Here are some examples of dairy-free foods you can order for delivery from your favorite restaurants.

Chick-Fil-A

  • Grilled chicken sandwich (including a grilled chicken club, just ask them to hold the cheese!)
  • Market salad or side salad, just ask to hold the cheese
  • Waffle potato fries
  • Most of their sauces, including their Chick-Fil-A sauce!

Chipotle

  • Tortilla products (tortilla chips, crispy corn tortilla, and soft flour tortillas)
  • Meat products (carne asada, carnitas, chicken, chorizo, and steak)
  • Salsas
  • Toppings (specifically, rice, vegetables, lettuce, and beans)
  • Stay away from queso, cheese, and sour cream!

Panera:

  • Breads and bagels (sourdough, whole grain, artisan ciabatta, sesame, sprouted grain, and everything)
  • Breakfast sandwiches, just ask for no cheese (ham and egg sandwich, steak and egg bagel, bacon and scrambled egg on ciabatta)
  • Oatmeal
  • Turkey chili, vegetable soup, and chicken noodle soup
  • Coffee drinks, as long as it’s ordered with almond milk.

Of course, it’s always a good idea to ask and double-check that any items you order are dairy-free. You can even ask the workers if they have any other suggestions for good, dairy-free menu options, as there are probably many that I haven’t mentioned in this article. Clearly, ordering delivery from your favorite restaurants is another great way to get a delicious meal that won’t make you break your diet.

If you’re a busy college student who has little time to grocery shop or prepare a fancy meal, you can always opt for food delivery! It’s convenient when you’re busy studying. Even if you have dietary restrictions, like a dairy-free diet, you still have many delicious options you can get delivered. In other words, ordering dairy-free food for delivery is a great option for your meals!
